Exercise & Mental Stimulation for Your Corgi

Proper grooming is essential to keep your Corgi healthy and looking their best. Here are the basic grooming practices I recommend:

Regular grooming not only keeps your Corgi comfortable but also helps you monitor their overall health.

For example, I take my Corgis on 2-mile hikes 4 to 6 times per week, and on non-hiking days, they enjoy walking on a treadmill to stay active.

Equally important is mental stimulation, which helps reduce hyperactivity, destructive behavior, and nipping—particularly in puppies.

To meet their mental needs, I provide frozen Toppls at dinner, engage in daily training sessions (about 20 minutes per dog), and occasionally offer puzzle toys as a stimulating snack option.

Feeding Guidelines for Your Corgi Puppy

Your Corgi puppy will typically require a total of 1 cup of food per day. Many Corgis maintain this portion size into adulthood, especially as their caloric needs decrease when transitioning from puppy to adult food. However, more active Corgis—like mine—may require up to 2 cups per day to meet their energy needs.

However, more active Corgis—like mine—may require up to 2 cups per day to meet their energy needs.

Please do not rely solely on the feeding recommendations printed on dog food packaging. Just as nutritional needs vary among people, the same is true for dogs. Corgis are a dwarf breed with short legs and a compact build, which means they require fewer calories than what is often suggested on standard kibble bags. Overfeeding can quickly lead to obesity, which poses serious health risks.
